A clinical review was done in 102 cases of intussusception who had been admitted in Chung-Ang University Hospital between Jun. 1991 and May. 1995, They devided into 2 groups-65 cases of barium reduction group(BRG) and 37 cases of surgically
treated
group (STG)-and compared the characteristics of each group. The results were as follows;
1) The age in 56.9% of BRG were 6 month to 1 year old. and the age in 62.1% of STG were 2 month to 8 month. Sex ratio of BRG and STG were 1.6:1 and 2.1: 1 STG showed higher male ratio than BRG but there was no statistical significance.
2) In seasonal variation, 64.7% of all cases were occurred in spring and summer but there were no seasonal variations between two groups.
3) The were no correlations between the weight and height and prevalence of intussusception.
4) Clinical symtoms were irritability, currant jelly stool, vomiting, abdominal mass in orders. but there were no differencies between two groups.
5) Seventy two point three percent of BRG and 81.1% of STG were trated within 24 hours from symptom onset. STG was treated eared earlier than BRG.
6) Abnormal findings of simple abdomen were noted in 30.8% at BRG and 62.2% at STG. STG showed higher rate of abnormal findings than BRG.
7) The types of intussusception were ileocolic, colocolic, mixed type in BRG and ileocolic, mixed, ileoileal type in STG.
